01. What is LearnandSave?

Learn and Save is a new community Web site that provides how-to tutorials, high-quality information and coupons to consumers on a variety of activities, products and topics. The coupons provide consumers with the option to save money if and when they need to purchase related products.

Learn and Save tutorials are created by industry experts and offer consumers digestible information in three to five minute how-to videos.

Learn and Save provides corporate sponsors with an opportunity to engage with customers in a new and enhanced way. In short, Learn and Save sits at the intersection of the acute need for consumers to save money, businesses looking for improved methods to engage consumers, and the growing use of videos on the Internet.

02. When was the company founded and where is it based?

Founded in 2008, Learn and Save was created as a wholly owned subsidiary of Knowledge Anywhere, a leader in the corporate e-learning market. Learn and Save will be headquartered in the greater Seattle area and co-located with Knowledge Anywhere in Bellevue, Wash. Learn and Save will also have offices in Minneapolis with client business development managers throughout North America.

03. Who is on the executive leadership team?

The Learn and Save executive team consists of Charlie Gillette, CEO, and Bill Allocca, CTO.

As the president and chief executive officer of Knowledge Anywhere since founding the company in 1998, Gillette has grown Knowledge Anywhere to be recognized as one of the fastest growing e-learning providers in the industry. He brings more than a decade of e-learning experience to Learn and Save.

04. Has Learn and Saved raised any venture capital?

Knowledge Anywhere has provided the initial seed capital to grow Learn and Save to where it is today. Learn and Save has strong interest from early investors and is likely to announce additional funding in the coming months.

05. How does Learn and Save generate revenue?

Learn and Save has an advertising-based revenue model. Corporate sponsors pay to advertise on the site. Learn and Save also is compensated by corporate sponsors when customers click through and purchase a related product or service.

06. When do you anticipate Learn and Save will be profitable?

Profitability is often a function of revenue and a company’s growth. We are not prepared to give you a projected date for profitability, but what we can tell you is that we have a proven business model and fully expect to be profitable.

07. How many employees do you have?

Currently, Learn and Save has five employees with plans to hire more employees in 2009. We anticipate our business will scale fairly dramatically in the coming months.

08. What is your vision for the company?

Our vision for Learn and Save is to be the leading online consumer destination for "how to" tutorials while passing significant savings to consumers. We plan to focus on:

  • Offering the largest "how to" tutorial catalog for consumers,
  • Matching savings opportunities with "how to" tutorials and,
  • Enabling corporate sponsors to engage directly with consumers in a new and enhanced way.

09. How many company sponsors does Learn and Save currently have?

We have a number of corporate sponsors. For example, REI has posted 14 tutorials on our site. Other tutorials are submitted by experts in categories ranging from health and beauty to electronics and more.

Furthermore we are in discussions with some of the leading companies around the country.

10. How many active users do you have today?

It’s still early for us to provide these numbers, however, consumer and corporate reaction to Learn and Save has been overwhelmingly positive. Need insight from Learn and Save if we want to share this number.

11. How many tutorials do you have and how did Learn and Save secure its tutorials?

Learn and Saved is launching with more than 10,000 online tutorials for consumers. Many of the tutorials were submitted directly to the Learn and Save Web site while we also worked with sponsors such as REI to submit compelling tutorials. Finally, we also have found best-of-breed how-to videos on the Internet to expand our catalog.

12. Why are tutorials on Learn and Save better?

Learn and Save tutorials are created by industry experts, providing high-quality knowledge to consumers in an effort to educate, engage and ultimately help consumers spend their dollars more efficiently. Learn and Save is the first expert site with financial incentives for consumers.

Tutorials on Learn and Save are also presented in a safe, friendly and community-oriented environment–meaning you can send anyone to the site, eliminating any fear of inappropriate content.

13. What are some of the most unique tutorials you have seen on Learn and Save?

You could say all of our tutorials are unique. Our industry experts provide compelling how-to information to help educate consumers, provide helpful tips and engage them in a community that encourages consumer to spend their dollars more efficiently.

In addition, it really depends on a user’s specific interest. For instance, Charlie Gillette, Learn and Save CEO, is really interested in the outdoors and backpacking, so he finds the REI tutorials to be compelling. Another person might find the music tutorials to be the most unique or interesting. Again, it really depends on a person’s interests and desire to learn. There is a ton of interesting material on the site for any topic you can think of that is geared to provide how-to information coupled with other relevant articles, books and coupons for immediate savings.
