She wanted me to help her draw Snow White but my lack of artistic skills meant I wasn't much help. I got the idea to use an enlargement grid on a smaller drawing so I could recreate it on the driveway but only much larger. Anyone can do this! For example, make a 1" grid on a coloring book drawing. Then make the same grid on the sidewalk or driveway only making 1 inch on the smaller drawing equal to 1 foot on the sidewalk. You can use whatever scale you like. This drawing of Superman is about 16' x 16' and the original was around 6" x 6" making the ratio approximately 1 inch equals 2.5 feet. We probably won't do others this large as the time it takes to make them starts getting out of control! This project took a total of six hours to complete. I spend about 1.5 hours drawing the outline the night before this video and about 4.5 hours to color it in. Another reason that they probably won't get any larger, is that I can't trust the weather forecasters here! We were supposed to have clear, rain free weather from Wednesday afternoon until Saturday afternoon. So I started the drawing on Wednesday evening and colored it throughout the afternoon on Thursday. It rained seven hours after finishing the drawing and nearly four of the hours were without sunlight. So this means that six hours of work was only enjoyable for about three hours! Not much of a return on the investment if you ask me! Unfortunately, I didn't get the idea to video the process until I had already drawn the outline. I will try to capture the entire process on the next project.
